The Crack of the Bat Synopsis

The story of John Ericks’ short lived time with the Pittsburgh Pirates and long lived time with crack cocaine.

This 25-minute documentary that I created entirely on my own (with the exception of my sister, who I convinced to boom op) pushed me to grow in every part of the filmmaking process.

The project taught me how to research effectively and obtain outside footage from sources like the MLB, while also learning how to shape a compelling narrative that remained true to real events. Along the way, I developed new skills that gave me confidence in interviewing subjects and guiding their stories on screen.
